Dr Leah Xu completed her medical degree at University of Melbourne in 1997. Since then she has completed her specialist obstetrics and gynaecology training, and was awarded the Gold Medal for her performance in the Australian and New Zealand Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Specialist Examination. Leah subsequently undertook a fellowship in Laparoscopic Surgery at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne.
In addition to her private practice where she is a general obstetrician and gynaecologist, she is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Royal Women’s Hospital. At this tertiary teaching hospital, Leah enjoys participating in the training and mentoring of young doctors and medical students, and keeping up-to-date with the latest advances in obstetrics and gynaecology. She is an accredited training supervisor with RANZCOG.
Born in Shanghai, China, Leah moved to Australia at the age of 12 with her family.
She is a busy Mum of 3 children, including 2 teenage boys. Having a family of her own allows Leah to understand the challenges the each parent faces. This helps her to provide a professional and yet very personalised approach to each individual patient.
Outside work, when not being a part time chauffeur for all of the kids’ extracurricular activities, Leah enjoys reading, yoga and bursts of gardening and interior design.
Obstetrics and gynaecology have always been Leah’s passion in medicine. She feels lucky to have fallen in love with a field that can bring so much joy into people’s lives!
