Making an appointment:

Just found out you are pregnant?

Call us at 9329 6668 to book your first appointment. To ensure every patient receives the best possible care, we have a monthly booking cap, so we recommend calling us early to make an appointment and ensure your place at Frances Perry House Private Hospital. You’re welcome to make an appointment with us even before obtaining a referral from your GP or specialist. We like to see you for an initial appointment at 8 weeks of pregnancy.

Pre-conception appointments:

We recommend that every person planning to conceive in the next 6-12 months seek advice from an Obstetrician before starting to try for a baby. You are welcome to call and make an appointment prior to obtaining a GP referral. Please ensure you have had a look at our Obstetricians profiles and have chosen who you would like to see for this appointment. Any patients that has seen OGCG for pre-pregnancy counselling will automatically qualify to see us for pregnancy care even if we have met out monthly cap for maternity bookings.

Gynaecology:

To ensure you see the most appropriate specialist for your needs, we kindly ask that you provide a referral from your general practitioner before attending an appointment at our practice. You can email your referral to referrals@ogcg.com.au or ask your GP to send it to us. Once we receive your referral, we will get in touch with you within 24 hours to schedule your appointment with the Gynaecologist. This also applies for Colposcopy, IUD insertions and Surgical treatments.

Before your first consultation

To ensure we have all the necessary information, you will receive a patient registration and welcome pack via email. Additionally, we kindly ask that you have your GP referral, along with any relevant testing (such as pathology and radiology reports), sent to us prior to your appointment. If you’re unable to fill out the forms before your initial consultation, please arrive 10 minutes early, and we will be happy to provide copies for you.

Fees

We believe in clear, upfront communication about fees and billing. Before your first consultation, we’ll provide a detailed schedule of fees and ask for your consent to proceed, with a copy of your financial consent emailed for your records.

Medicare rebates can be processed once payment is made, with rebates received overnight. We also welcome self-funded patients without private health insurance. For appointments with our Physiotherapists or Tara Hanaphy, HICAPS facilities are available for on-the-spot private health insurance claims.

Our friendly medical secretaries are always happy to explain our fees, answer questions, and guide you through the process. We understand healthcare costs, especially during pregnancy, can feel overwhelming, and we’re here to help.

We can also outline other potential costs during your pregnancy journey, helping you plan ahead with confidence.

Appointment times

Our Obstetricians do their best to run on time, but babies follow their own schedule. Sometimes your doctor may be called away unexpectedly to attend a birth or hospital patient.

Where possible, our secretaries will notify you of any delays or changes. We appreciate your understanding and recommend allowing extra time around your appointment — just in case a baby makes their grand entrance!

If your doctor is delayed, our wonderful midwives — Kaye, Christine, Thea, and Jenni — are here to support you. With extensive experience in pregnancy, birth, and postnatal care (and currently working in the birth suites at Frances Perry House), they’re well equipped to share results, offer advice, and answer questions.

You may also meet one of our other female Obstetricians, if available, helping you feel familiar with the team caring for you.

You’ll always be in safe, supportive hands at every stage of your pregnancy journey.

The story of OGCG

OGCG began with a simple but powerful idea: to create a space where women could access high-quality healthcare at every stage of life, in an environment that felt warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed. In 2007, Dr Jean Wong and Dr Leah Xu brought this vision to life, building a clinic that was nurturing, purposeful, and truly patient-centred.

Over time, OGCG has grown organically into a truly multidisciplinary practice. We noticed early that there were few places where women could seamlessly access both obstetric and allied health support under one roof. Guided by our founding purpose, we expanded to meet this need.

Today, we are proud to offer a collaborative team including five obstetricians, five medical secretaries, a practice manager, four midwives, women’s health physiotherapists, a lactation consultant, a dietitian, an acupuncturist, and in-house antenatal education classes. Our patients can access consistent, evidence-based care from adolescence through to post-menopause.

We’ve renovated and expanded our clinic twice, most recently in 2024, always with our patients and their families in mind. No matter how much we grow, OGCG remains defined by the team, the community we’ve built, and the thousands of families whose stories we’re privileged to be part of.

Looking back, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come — but looking around today, it’s even more incredible to see what OGCG has become.

Why we choose to deliver at Frances Perry House

Frances Perry House is our preferred private hospital for maternity care, offering clinical excellence in a modern, supportive setting. Co-located within the Royal Women’s Hospital and next to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, it provides seamless access to tertiary services including NICU, 24/7 paediatric support, emergency services, and urgent caesarean if needed. Patients also benefit from onsite ultrasound, pathology, and lactation support.

The hospital offers patient-focused amenities like a night nursery, sibling-friendly play areas, and meals prepared by an onsite chef — often praised by our patients. Eligible families can also access the Hotel Program at the Intercontinental Melbourne, providing a supported transition to home.

Frances Perry House combines safety, expertise, and comfort, making it a trusted choice for families and our team.

Benefits of an Obstetric Group Practice

At OGCG, choosing an obstetrician within our group practice means you’ll always be cared for by someone you know and trust. While your primary obstetrician will lead your care, you’ll meet the rest of the team during your pregnancy, so every doctor is a familiar face.

Labour and delivery care is shared across the group, with each obstetrician rotating weekend and overnight on-call duties. No doctor can be available 24/7, 365 days a year, but as a group, we can be. This means there’s always an OGCG obstetrician available to support you, on the phone, in person at the hospital, or in the practice, who knows your story and has immediate access to your medical history.

Our group practice model ensures safe, consistent care and true continuity, with a team who care for every patient as if they were their own.

Tips for choosing your Obstetrician

Key factors to consider:

Continuity of Care: Decide if you prefer private care, with the same obstetrician supporting you through pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

Group vs. Solo Practice: Group practices like OGCG offer familiar, trusted care 24/7—even if your primary obstetrician isn’t available.

Hospital Affiliation: Check which hospital your obstetrician delivers at, and if it matches your care and facility preferences.

Approach and Philosophy: Choose someone whose communication style, values, and approach make you feel comfortable and supported.

Recommendations & Research: Ask friends, family, or your GP for referrals.

Having a pre-conception appointment with an obstetrician can help build a comfortable relationship early on.
