Consultant Gynaecologist and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon
Avelyn Wong is a consultant gynaecologist and advanced laparoscopic surgeon with a special focus on complex gynaecological surgery and minimally invasive gynaecology.
She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours and completed specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Mercy Hospital in Melbourne. Avelyn completed an additional two years of training with an Advanced Laparoscopy Fellowship through the Australasian Gynaecology Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES). She is a consultant gynaecologist at two of Melbourne’s leading tertiary hospitals: The Royal Women’s Hospital and The Mercy Hospital for Women, where she is responsible for the teaching and supervision of trainee specialists.
Avelyn believes in providing an inclusive, patient-centered approach to care, and empowering her patients with knowledge and support. She understands the importance of actively listening to her patients and ensuring quality and individualised care.
Avelyn’s qualifications and experience have equipped her with the skills to offer minimally invasive options for complex surgical cases such as excisional surgery for severe or stage IV endometriosis, large fibroids or difficult hysterectomies, allowing for less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stay and faster recovery. Avelyn also welcomes referrals for general gynaecological services including the management of heavy or painful periods, ovarian cysts, endometrial polyps, insertion of IUDs and abnormal cervical screening tests.
When not working, Avelyn enjoys spending time outdoors with her two young children and her lively golden retriever.
