Obstetrician & Gynaecologist MBBS, FRANZCOG, DDU (O&G)
Dr Robin Thurman is a highly experienced and fully qualified high-risk pregnancy obstetrician based in Melbourne, with advanced training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU). Robin is deeply dedicated to providing exceptional care for women, supporting them through every stage of their pregnancy journey, from pre-conception counselling to birth.
As a staff specialist at The Royal Women’s Hospital, Robin performs ultrasounds and runs specialised clinics for high-risk pregnancies. She is also passionate about mentoring trainees, conducting ongoing research, and sharing her expertise at international conferences. Her areas of special interest include twin pregnancies, recurrent pregnancy loss, preterm birth, fetal anomalies, and managing complex medical conditions during pregnancy, such as diabetes, cardiac conditions, autoimmune disorders, and epilepsy. Robin also provides pre-pregnancy counselling, helping women plan and reduce the risk of complications before conception.
While she is known for her expertise in high-risk pregnancies, Robin finds great joy in caring for women with low-risk pregnancies as well, ensuring they feel supported and confident throughout. Robin’s holistic approach to care is something she values deeply, which is why she thrives in a group practice, where she can collaborate with others and provide tailored care for women with diverse needs. She finds her work immensely fulfilling, and the privilege of being part of each woman’s journey brings her great joy.
Originally from Ballarat, Robin completed her medical degree at The University of Melbourne. Her obstetrics and gynaecology training took place at The Mercy Hospital for Women and The Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne. In 2014, Robin earned a prestigious Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, through The University of Toronto. This internationally competitive role allowed her to work alongside global leaders in the field, gaining advanced ultrasound skills and participating in fetal interventions and in-utero surgeries.
Robin’s expertise and dedication have been recognised in the media, with her work featured on ABC’s Four Corners and in The Age, as well as published in peer-reviewed journals. She is committed to advancing women’s health through both her clinical practice and ongoing research.
Outside of medicine, Robin enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two young daughters. She loves staying active, traveling, attending live music events, and enjoying the theatre. Robin even chose to deliver her own children at Frances Perry House, a place where she felt supported and cared for during one of the most important moments of her life.
