Pre-Pregnancy Consultations

Planning for pregnancy is an exciting time, and seeing an obstetrician before you conceive is one of the best ways to prepare your body and mind for a healthy pregnancy journey.

A pre-pregnancy consultation offers the opportunity to review your health holistically and identify any factors that may influence fertility, conception, or pregnancy outcomes.

This session is especially important for those with a history of miscarriage or other poor obstetric outcomes, gynaecological concerns such as long or irregular cycles, PCOS, or underlying medical conditions including diabetes, thyroid disorders, or hypertension.

Addressing these issues early allows us to create a tailored plan that supports your health and gives your future pregnancy the best possible start.

During your pre-pregnancy consultation, the following will be explored in detail:

  • A review of your obstetric and gynaecological history
  • A review of your medical history, with assessment of any current medications to ensure they are safe for pregnancy, or transitioned to safer alternatives if required
  • Review and optimisation of your mental health, which is just as important as your physical wellbeing
  • A thorough discussion of your family history and the option to consider genetic carrier screening
  • An evaluation of your lifestyle factors, including exercise, nutrition, smoking, and alcohol
  • Advice on the commencement of appropriate dietary supplementation and multivitamins, such as folic acid
  • Ensuring your vaccinations are up-to-date to protect both you and your future baby
  • Education around identifying and tracking your fertile window to help maximise your chances of conceiving naturally

This appointment is also a wonderful opportunity to meet the OGCG team and familiarise yourself with our practice environment. We understand how important it is to feel supported and comfortable with your care team during such a significant time in your life.

By connecting with us early, you’ll gain a clear understanding of what to expect, who will be involved in your care, and how we can work together to support your pregnancy journey from the very beginning.
